Out Landers Inn / Jeep Retreat

When and Why: The concept came into being in 1994 and continues to evolve over time. Our first flying vacation occurred in 1994 when we packed our two daughters into the airplane and set off for Washington DC on 10/19/1994. We navigated through the White House VFR corridor, offering us an incredible view of the White House from above, with no flight restrictions making it a thrilling experience to fly in that area. Upon landing at the Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA airport, we were treated to a stunning sunset and encountered a small herd of deer near the surrounding boards at the runway's end. While on short final, ATC cleared us, and we finalized our flight plan. We then taxied to the FBO, parked, and unloaded our aircraft into a waiting taxi for a brief ride to our hotel. This marked the start of our journey into flying vacations that would transform our perception of holidays. From that point forward, we committed to taking two weeks of leave each year to fly out west, occasionally venturing to New Jersey from Daytona Beach, Florida, especially during Thanksgiving, when we spent time with my brother Keith and his wife Dina. We began exploring the West. Our first trip took us to El Paso, Texas, where an electrical issue forced us to leave the aircraft at the Beechcraft dealer for repairs on the Over Voltage Regulator. We rented a Ford Explorer and moved on to the Grand Canyon area. While vacationing, we learned of the struggles faced by some Native American Reservations. In that moment, I felt compelled to do something meaningful to help alter future outcomes. Over the following years, while traveling out West for vacationing and work, I began to conceive a plan for effecting change. I shared thoughts with friends and family but hadn't solidified a plan, although I remained passionately driven to pursue this mission of service. Consequently, we continued our westward flights with the intent of addressing this issue.
